Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission

The merging of the Equality Authority and the Irish Human Rights Commission brought a singular entity and voice for equality and rights in Ireland. They required a new logotype and brand system to define and present the organisation to both public and official bodies.

Creating the mark

Workshops, questionnaires and surveys provided the basis to identify the organisations core language, brand values, challenges and their ultimate vision. Visual research was undertaken to explore these values in terms of everyday visual language, through symbology and iconography. Distilling this visual research an eventual mark was developed.

The final mark embodies the Brand values identified during the research phase of the project, Representation, Solidarity, Balance, Symmetry, Dialogue, Convergence, Upfront and Protect.

Final Identity

Researching a number of typefaces Effra was chosen for its openness, legibility and geometric balance, reflecting the values of the organisation.

Brand development

In terms of setting the tone, a primary human visual language was defined for the initial brand expression. Using elements from the mark the materials link directly to the identity.

Brand system guidelines were delivered to the client.
